The deadline for filing is April 1, 2015 in order to receive the Tax Exemption starting this year.  It’s easy, and you only have to file for Homestead Exemption one time. The exemption (tax reduction) will remain on your property until there is a change in ownership. To complete the application, there are several items you must include. These items include the tax parcel ID number, the recorded deed book and page number of your vesting deed  which shows the transfer of the property into your name. Your closing attorney sent this information approximately 6 weeks after closing. The Tax Commissioner’s office can furnish the forms for the application and answer any questions. It is always a good idea to contact your Tax Commissioner’s Office after you file your form to verify receipt and to confirm it is correct.
